If I were floating on the open ocean and saw a Blue Sea Dragon for the first time, I think I would believe I was dreaming. This tiny sea creature looks like a piece of living art drifting on the water. With its bright electric blue body and strange wing-like shapes, it does not look real at all. How I see it, it looks like a tiny dragon made of ocean light.
The Blue Sea Dragon lives in the open oceans, far away from shore. It floats upside down on the surface of the water by trapping air inside its stomach. Instead of swimming like most sea creatures, it lets the waves carry it gently across the sea. I would say it lives life as a quiet traveler of the ocean.

Its bright blue colors are not just for beauty. The deep blue side blends with the dark ocean when seen from above, and the lighter side blends with the bright surface when seen from below. I think this smart coloring helps protect it from hungry predators that scan the water for food.

Even though it looks soft and harmless, this tiny creature is actually deadly. It feeds on one of the ocean’s most dangerous animals the Portuguese Man o’ War. Even more surprising, the Blue Sea Dragon can steal the Man o’ War’s stinging cells and store them inside its own body. How I see it, this is like borrowing a weapon from your enemy and using it even better.
The Blue Sea Dragon reminds me that the ocean is full of quiet surprises. Something beautiful can also be powerful. Something tiny can also be dangerous. I think this small drifting creature is one of the ocean’s most magical secrets.
